The waves are still going on with 2 to 3 feet but the forecast indicates that they should go up from Thursday when the key competitors are on for the second and last round of 24 heats. 144 surfers from 20 countries will run for the U$135.000 prize and 2.500 points offered in the first out of three male events in a row in the Brazilian season within the ASP South America Surf Series 2008 that defines South American professional champion.

  8 October, 2008 : - - Hyuga, Miyazaki - ASP WQS 2 STAR events Hyuga Pro presented by ASAHI commenced today at Okuragahama beach this morning with beautiful sunshine. First call this morning was 8:30 and we saw a large number of Miyazaki local surfers to make it to the round of 64. Out of them it was Koshi Mizumoto and Yasuaki Higashikawa who glided to victory to the higher rounds.
• Mavericks lights up opening day with 15' to 18' swells
  8 October, 2008 : - - Garrett McNamara and Eric Akiskalian of Towsurfer.com had beenwatching the swell models all week.Theswell forecast was aconsistent 15-18 at 12 to 13 seconds out of the NW. The storm generated close to the coast, which usually causes lowintervals and bad winds.It was a 50/50 chance but both were confident it would be good.

  8 October, 2008 : - - The fifth annual Mid North Coast Girls Surfing Classic, proudly sponsored by Honey Ocean & Earth was held at Rainbow Beach in Bonny Hills on September 27 and 28. The event attracted 65 competitors from the east coast of Australia with a total of 10 divisions of competition.

The highly anticipated annual event celebrates the life, love, and laughter of Tommy Tant -one of Flagler Beach's surf brethren who sadly passed away due to an aortic aneurysm in 1998.

  8 October, 2008 : - - ENCINITAS, CA - This past weekend, South African surfer Royden Bryson claimed victory at the Nixon WTA in Mundaka, Euskadi, for getting the longest tube. The first South African to win a WTA title, Bryson snagged a 3.14 second barrel during heat 13 of round two. Despite the less than stellar conditions, there was a burst of activity during the second round with Jordy Smith and Fred Patacchia following closely behind Bryson with tubes at 3.12 and 3.09 seconds, respectively.

  8 October, 2008 : - - The National Junior selectors of Surfing South Africa , Cecil Solomon (convener), Ant Brodowicz, Cyril Nel and Graham Hynes, have announced the names of the surfers who will participate in selection trials which will be used to choose the 2009 South African Junior team which will compete in the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships in Ecuador.

  8 October, 2008 : - - The first VQS event of the year, scheduled for Cape Town earlier this year, was cancelled as the beaches were under attack by the triple whammy of the biggest storm, swell and tide in a couple of decades. The contest director wisely decided to postpone, and this weekend sees the first of the VQS Series take place in Durban.

With a lot of water pushing from the multiple swell energy, wave conditions at the D Street sandbar were moderately walled but there were many steep corners for the competitors to maximize their scoring potential.
